Rolf Kahn ( Latvian Rolfs Kāns ; born December 9, 1943 in Liepāja ) is a former Latvian - German football player who played in the Bundesliga for Karlsruher SC . He is the father of the soccer players Axel and Oliver Kahn .

origin

Rolf Kahn is the son of the Baltic German Rolf Kahn, who worked for the German Navy in Liepāja , Latvia , and Erika Alksnis from Latvia . During the Second World War , his family moved to Karlsruhe .

Career as a player

Emerging from the youth of Karlsruher SC, Kahn received a licensed player's contract with their league club for the 1962/63 season. Under coach Kurt Sommerlatt he matured to become a regular player and played 28 games in his first senior season and scored one goal. In the following season he played with Karlsruher SC in the top German division, the Bundesliga , which was newly founded in 1962 . In it he made his debut on August 24, 1963 (1st matchday) in the 1: 4 defeat in the home game against Meidericher SV . He scored his only Bundesliga goal on May 9, 1964 (30th matchday) in the 1: 2 defeat in the home game against Eintracht Frankfurt four minutes before the end of the game. In the following season he was used only once, whereby he underwent an own goal in the 0-2 defeat on January 23, 1965 (19th matchday) in the home game against Werder Bremen . In addition, Kahn played two games in the DFB Cup competition and was successful once.

From 1965 to 1967 Kahn played in the Regionalliga Südwest for Phoenix Bellheim . After a 12th place in the table followed with the 15th place in the table, relegation to the 1st amateur league . Kahn stayed in the Regionalliga Südwest and played for FC 08 Homburg from 1967 to 1969 .

National team

After Kahn had already played internationally with the national school team against England, he moved up to the national youth team . Between 1961 and 1962 he played twelve games; for the first time on March 12, 1961 in Flensburg in a 2-0 victory over England. From April 2 to 8, 1961, he took part in the UEFA youth tournament in Portugal and finished third with a 2-1 win over Spain's selection. The following year the UEFA youth tournament ended after the three group matches. Kahn scored his only goal in the national jersey on June 17, 1961 in Schaffhausen in a 4-1 victory over Switzerland, against which he also played his last game on June 23, 1962 in Augsburg in a 3-1 victory.

Career as a coach

After the end of his career in national soccer, he was still active as a coach in the amateur field, where he accompanied his son Oliver's soccer career from day one . His older son Axel also played one season for the professional team of Karlsruher SC.

Others

Rolf Kahn ran for president of the Karlsruher SC in autumn 2009, but was clearly defeated by the Mayor of Bretten , Paul Metzger, in the general meeting .
