Roman Abelevich Kachanov

Roman Abelewitsch Katschanow ( Russian Роман Абелевич Качанов ; born February 25, 1921 in Smolensk , Soviet Union ; † July 4, 1993 in Moscow , Russia ) was a Russian animator , director and screenwriter . His four films about the characters crocodile Gena and Cheburashka achieved enormous popularity in the Soviet Union .

Life

In 1946 he started working for the Soviet animation film studio Soyuzmultfilm , where he worked as an animator for ten years. He made his first own film The Old Man and the Crane (Starik i schurawl) in 1957. The style of the film differed greatly from that of the other Soviet animated films of the time.
