Rossija K , until December 31, 2009 Kultura ( Russian Культура ), is a state television broadcaster in Russia , which broadcasts a culture-oriented, advertising-free special-interest program. It is part of the media holding WGTRK .

history

The channel was established by government decree in August 1997 and went on air on November 1, 1997. From the beginning 8 studios were maintained for the various program components: information, art, music, science, film, archive, special and program implementation. In 2000 the broadcaster joined the European Broadcasting Union . Since autumn 2001 it has been broadcasting daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. (in Moscow until 2:00 a.m.). Within Russia, the station has received a comparatively large number of cultural awards in the years of its existence, but this is partly due to the station's powerful protégés. On January 1, 2010 the station, which was previously called Kultura or RTR Kultura, became part of a restructuring of the broadcasting landscape of the media holding company in Rossija K renamed.

Program and broadcasts

The program from Rossija K can be received nationwide and is roughly comparable to that of channels such as 3sat or arte in German-speaking countries. However, due to its affiliation with the state media holding WGTRK, it is on a non-governmental line. In a 2004 survey, Rossija K was the station with the eighth largest market share in the Russian Federation.

Due to its cultural focus, concert broadcasts, documentaries and films take up a large part of the program. In addition to in-house productions, numerous international productions are also shown. Among other things, the station broadcasts the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic or shows parts of the series Treasures of the World - Heritage of Mankind at irregular intervals . In the fictional area, Russian and Soviet feature films as well as Soviet television productions dominate , but international classics and silent films are also shown.

During the program-free period, a test image , albeit with the station logo, is broadcast after the broadcast has ended. In the morning from Tuesday to Sunday from 6:30 a.m. until the start of broadcasting at 10:00 a.m., and on Monday from 7:00 a.m., the Euronews program is taken over in the Russian language version.

The program will be broadcast in four different program zones (more precisely: staggered versions): Moscow version, version 1 (Moscow time + 7 hours), version 2 (Moscow time + 4 hours) and version 3 (Moscow time + 2 hours). However, as with most national programs in Russia, all time overlays in the program show the current Moscow time. For example, on weekdays the evening cultural news in Novosibirsk begins according to the program and according to local time at 7.30 p.m., but the previously faded in clock shows 3:29 p.m. (Moscow time). The design of the station clock is based on the peacock clock in the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg or, as an introduction, mostly uses a short film with recordings of the clock in motion.

Since February 1, 2018, the television channel has been broadcasting in the 16: 9 aspect ratio .
