Rupert Brüggler (born June 24, 1990 in Hüttau ) is an Austrian natural track tobogganist . He achieved his greatest successes to date with Tobias Angerer in a two-seater. They won the silver medal at the 2009 European Junior Championships and the gold medal at the 2017 World Championships , three wins in the World Cup and twice the overall intercontinental cup standings.

Career

Rupert Brüggler has been competing in both single and doubles in the Intercontinental Cup since winter 2005/2006. While he has not yet achieved any top positions in the single-seater, he reached third place overall in the double-seater with Anja Brüggler in the first season. They achieved their best race result at the end of the season with third place in St. Sebastian . Rupert and Anja Brüggler started the next season with a third place in Moos in Passeier , but eventually fell back to sixth in the overall standings. In these two years they also took part in the international junior championships and achieved sixth place at the 2006 junior world championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the 2007 European junior championship in St. Sebastian. In addition, they were Austrian junior champions in doubles in 2006 and 2007. They also took part in roller luge competitions in the summer .

Rupert Brüggler and Tobias Angerer have been racing in a two-seater since winter 2007/2008 . With third place at the Austrian State Championships in 2008, which were held in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud at the end of December 2007 , and at the same time winning the Austrian Junior Championship, they made the leap into the Austrian World Cup team straight away. In their first two World Cup races on January 13th and 20th, 2008 in Umhausen , they finished fifth and sixth, and a week later they achieved their best ever World Cup result with fourth place in Latsch . With these three results - they did not take part in any other World Cup races for the time being - they achieved eleventh place overall in the 2007/2008 season . At the Junior World Championships 2008 in Latsch, Rupert Brüggler started with Dominik Holzknecht in the doubles. They reached fourth place, 0.9 seconds behind third-placed Dominik and Dieter Apolloner .

In the 2008/2009 season, Rupert Brüggler and Tobias Angerer started exclusively in the Intercontinental Cup. They finished on the podium in all five races and were three times - in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Jesenice and Laas - in first place, which won them the overall standings. At the 2009 European Junior Championships in Longiarü , they won the silver medal behind Thomas Kammerlander and Christoph Regensburger, who were 2.4 seconds ahead of them . After their overall victory in the Intercontinental Cup, Rupert Brüggler and Tobias Angerer were able to take part in a World Cup race again in the 2009/2010 season . They finished seventh in Umhausen, but did not make any further World Cup appearances during the rest of the winter. In the Intercontinental Cup they remained without a win this winter and achieved third place in the overall standings. They finished fourth at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Nova Ponente. They were 1.32 seconds short of the medal ranks. After Rupert Brüggler and Tobias Angerer had finished second at the Austrian Junior Championships in 2009, they won the title for the second time in 2010 - for Rupert Brüggler it was the fourth Austrian Junior Championship.

In the winter of 2010/2011 Rupert Brüggler did not take part in any international competitions. At the Austrian State Championships in 2011, he nevertheless achieved second place in the doubles together with Tobias Angerer. In the 2011/2012 season Brüggler competed internationally again. In the World Cup , he and Tobias Angerer equalized their best position so far with fourth place in the doubles final in Umhausen, while in the Intercontinental Cup they won the doubles overall standings for the second time with two wins in Umhausen and Laas. The Brüggler / Angerer duo also took part in a European championship for the first time in Nowouralsk and achieved eighth place.

On December 16, 2018, Angerer and Brüggler celebrated their first World Cup victory in Kühtai .
