Career

Kammerlander took part in junior world and European championships from 2005 and was able to classify three times among the top ten singles from 2005 to 2007. In 2006 he started for the first time at a European Championship in the general class and finished 17th. After he achieved several victories and podium places in the Intercontinental Cup in winter 2005/2006 and became Austrian Junior Champion, he started in the World Cup in the 2006/2007 season . In the fourth race in his hometown of Umhausen, at the same time as the Italian Patrick Pigneter, he achieved his first victory and with a total of five top 10 results he was sixth in the overall single-seater World Cup. At the 2007 World Championships in Grande Prairie , he reached sixth place and at the 2007 European Junior Championships in St. Sebastian he was fifth in the singles.

In 2008, Kammerlander finished sixth in the single seater at the Junior World Championships in Latsch . Here he started for the first time with Christoph Regensburger, who was three years his junior, in a two-seater and also finished sixth. A week later he was 16th in the single-seater at the 2008 European Championships in Olang . After his first World Cup victory, there were no further podium places in the 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 seasons and Kammerlander took eleventh place twice in the overall single-seater World Cup with three top 10 results each time. Since the winter of 2008/2009 he has been competing in the two-seater World Cup together with Christoph Regensburger. The team finished their first season with a total of five top 10 places in eighth place in the overall ranking.

Kammerlander won his first international title at the 2009 Junior European Championship in Longiarü , where he won the gold medal in the doubles and bronze in the singles. A week later, Kammerlander, who had just turned 19, had to admit defeat only Patrick Pigneter by almost four hundredths of a second in the single-seat competition of the 2009 World Cup in Moos in Passeier . Together with the Austria II team, he came fifth in the team competition. In addition, in 2009 he was Austrian state champion in doubles.

In the 2009/2010 World Cup season , Kammerlander's best results in single-seater were two third places in Novouralsk and Umhausen. In the overall World Cup, he achieved his best result to date in fifth. In the doubles, he and Christoph Regensburger achieved four top 10 results and thus, as in the previous year, eighth place overall. Her best race result was fifth place at the start of the season in Novouralsk. At the Junior World Championship in 2010 , Kammerlander won gold in the doubles and bronze in the singles at the Junior European Championships in 2010 . At the European Championships in 2010 , as in the previous year at the World Cup, he was second in the single-seater behind Patrick Pigneter. In addition, he took fifth place in the doubles and became team European champion with the Austria I team together with Melanie Batkowski , Christian Schopf and Andreas Schopf . In 2010 and 2011, Kammerlander secured the Austrian state championship in the single-seater.

Since the 2010/2011 season , Thomas Kammerlander has only started in a single-seater. After two ninth places at the start of the season in Nowouralsk , he achieved his second-best World Cup result in second in Casies . At the 2011 World Cup in Umhausen, he finished fourth in the singles and team competitions. On February 6th, Kammerlander was seriously injured in a training fall in Olang. In addition to a concussion, he suffered a broken shoulder and nose, which is why he had to end the season early. In the 2011/2012 season he was among the top ten in four of the six World Cup races, with a sixth place in Nova Ponente being his best result. In the overall World Cup he was ninth. At the 2012 European Championships in Novouralsk, he finished 16th in the single-seater.

In the 2012/2013 season , Kammerlander took third place in the overall World Cup as the best Austrian. He achieved his second World Cup victory at the World Cup in Passeier Valley. He was third in each of the World Cups in Umhausen, Kindberg and Vatra Dornei. In the World Cup, the 2013/2014 season was his most successful to date for Thomas. He was able to win both the parallel world cup on the Alpe di Siusi and the world cup final in Vatra Dornei. A second place at the races in Umhausen and Moos im Passeier, as well as a third place in Olang, also testified to a strong season. In the overall World Cup, he finished just behind Patrick Pigneter in second place.

The 2014/2015 season was below average for Thomas Kammerlander. Both at the World Cup races in Kühtai and at the World Cup races in Deutschnofen, he fell badly. The 2015/2016 season went much better again. The win of the gold medal in the men's singles at the 2016 European Championships in Moos im Passeier deserves special mention. In addition there was the silver medal in the team. He also won the World Cup finals in Umhausen. His fifth World Cup victory by now. Third places in each of the races in Deutschnofen , Kühtai and Vatra Dornei as well as sixth place in Moscow were enough for Thomas for third place in the overall World Cup.

In the 2016/2017 season the time had finally come for Thomas Kammerlander. With two World Cup victories in the Russian metropolis of Moscow, he took over the World Cup leadership for the first time, which he defended until the final in Umhausen, where he finally brought the overall World Cup victory back to Austria after 14 years. He was also able to crown himself the bronze medal at the world championship in singles in Vatra Dornei and team world champion in the team competition with Tina Unterberger and Brüggler / Angerer .

One of Thomas Kammerlander's most successful seasons was the 2017/2018 season . With an opening win in Kühtai and two more victories in Mariazell as well as the final in Umhausen , he was able to secure the overall World Cup 2017/2018 again. At the European Championships in Styria Winterleiten , he was able to defend the European Championship title from 2016 and thus crowned himself European Champion 2018 for the second time. In the team competition, he also won the gold medal for the second time after 2010 with Tina Unterberger and the two-seater Brüggler / Angerer Take home.

In the 2018/2019 season , Thomas Kammerlander managed the hat trick. With three wins this season, he won the overall World Cup for the third time in a row. At the 2019 World Championships in Latzfons , he won his two silver medals at the single-seater world championships and became vice world champion for the second time since 2009. In the team competition he was also able to win the silver medal together with Tina Unterberger and Michael Scheikl .
