Manfred Danklmaier is a former Austrian natural toboggan runner . He started in both single and doubles and was European champion in 1985 .

Career

Danklmaier achieved several successes at major events in the late 1970s and 1980s. He won his first medals at the Junior European Championships in Liezen in 1979 . He was third in the single-seater and, together with his brother Willi, second in the two-seater, behind the Italian duo Hellweger / Oberhammer . At the 1981 European Championships in Niedernsill , he and his brother won the bronze medal in the doubles, but only came in 24th in the singles. At the 1983 European Championships in St. Konrad , the brothers just missed a medal as fourth in the doubles. He finished eleventh in the single-seater.

Danklmaier celebrated his greatest success at the 1985 European Championships in Szczyrk , Poland , when he was European champion in single-seater ahead of second-placed Damiano Lugon and third-placed Robert Tomelitsch . In 1986 Danklmaier won the European Cup in Inzing in a single seater and was seventh at the World Championships in Fénis . At the European Championships in 1987 in Jesenice , the defending champion did not finish, two years later he achieved eighth place at the European Championships in 1989 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . Danklmaier took part in world championships until 1994, but was no longer among the top ten.
