Rush Hour 3 is an American action - comedy from 2007. It was directed by in this film, as the first part of 1998 and its sequel in 2001, Brett Ratner . The two main roles were cast again with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker . The German theatrical release was August 16, 2007.

action

This time it takes the two protagonists, Chief Inspector Lee and James Carter, who was demoted to patrolman, to Paris, where they have to deal with a gang of triads . When Consul Han is supposed to identify the supreme triad boss before the International Criminal Court , he is gunned down by a triad sniper , but survives seriously injured. Lee, who is personally responsible for its protection, pursues the assassin . After a car chase through LA, he turns out to be his "brother" Kenji from the orphanage where Lee spent his childhood. Because of their shared past, Lee has the heart to arrest him and lets him escape.

The investigation leads Lee and Carter to Paris , where the two of them initially find it difficult to find their way around, as they have few leads, but a lot of problems with French culture . Furthermore, the French Revi from the French secret service, who has a personal dislike for the two foreigners, makes life difficult for them. The key is the beautiful Geneviève, who works as a dancer in a French establishment and who owns Shy Shen, a list of the thirteen triad leaders tattooed on the back of her head . After the election of the new head of the gang, however, as tradition dictates, she should be beheaded in order to keep the secret of the identity of the triads. Her approaching demise prompts Geneviève to contact Consul Han in order to be able to save her life with his help. When Kenji finds out that Lee and Carter want to protect Geneviève, who are meanwhile sought by the Triads, and want to take them out of the country, he abducts Soo Yung, the daughter of the consul Han, to free Geneviève. In a brilliant showdown on the Eiffel Tower , however, Lee and Carter manage to free the kidnapped woman and stop Kenji, who falls from the Eiffel Tower after a fight with Lee.

Reviews

"This sequel, which is big in terms of action and amours, fulfills wishes - in front of and on the screen."

- Peter Koberger, kino.de

“Once again, the makers of this action-comedy series let their main actors do funny things [...]. Here Chris Tucker and colleague Jackie Chan prove once again how funny they can be. Then there are the typical action-hit scenes and the fans can leave the cinema seat satisfied and happy. "

- Thomas Ays , moviesection.de

“The mixture of comedy, drama, martial arts and action film, which is sometimes bumpy and riddled with unnecessary sexism, is tailored to the two stars, of whom only Jackie Chan, who is aware of his physical limits, collects plus points, while his constantly chattering partner only annoys . "

Soundtrack

The original soundtrack consists mainly of the score composed by Lalo Schifrin and selected dialogues. The following titles can also be heard in the film:

background

The cost of producing the film, which began shooting in September 2006, was $ 140 million. The two main actors are said to have received US $ 20 million each . Although the film brought back its production costs, it was also not as financially resounding as its predecessor, but a fourth part was planned that would take the protagonists to Moscow . However, this was no longer implemented for cost reasons.

Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme were initially considered for the role of villain. After the script was rewritten several times, however, it was decided to go with Hiroyuki Sanada. Roman Polański could only be engaged for the film because his scenes were shot in France, while in the USA he was threatened with arrest on charges of rape .

At the showdown on the Eiffel Tower, Carter disparagingly referred to Kenji's gang of criminals as the "Temptations". This is an allusion to the band of the same name , whose appearances were also characterized by white suits. As background music, the title War in the interpretation of Edwin Starr can be heard in the said scene , the original of which comes from the Temptations.

The film alludes to the Indiana Jones trilogy several times . For example, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is on TV at the Chinese diner. The night club scene, slipping under the closing warehouse gate and the fight on the Eiffel Tower are also a strong reminder of this part.

In all three rush hour films, Lee and Carter's opponent died from a fall from a great height. In addition, at least one of the two must save himself from the same situation with a daring jump.
