As Genus VIII 2 designated Royal Saxon State Railways four-coupled Schlepptender locomotives for the express train service . The Deutsche Reichsbahn classified the locomotives in the 13.70 series from 1925 .

history

It was manufactured by the Sächsische Maschinenfabrik in Chemnitz between 1891 and 1895 . Its construction was based on the Prussian S 2 , but in contrast to this it had a two-cylinder wet steam engine.

Saxony acquired a total of 20 locomotives of this type, which were given the track numbers 101 to 120. The number 111 was 2,000. Locomotive built by the Sächsische Maschinenfabrik and received the memorable name ZWEITAUSEND . The other locomotives bore names of European capitals and major cities, with the exception of No. 119, which was called PRIESTEWITZ , in memory of a small train station where Saxonia had an accident in 1838.

The German Reichsbahn took over after 1920 twelve locomotives with numbers 13 7001 to 13 7012. They were retired by the 1928th

commitment

Initially, the locomotives were used in express train traffic on the main lines in Saxony. With the commissioning of the class VIII V 1 from 1896, however, they were quickly pushed out of high-quality train service.

technical features

The locomotives had a long boiler made of three sections with a semicircular ceiling. Two non-suction injectors were used to feed the boiler . The Ramsbottom safety valve was located on the rear boiler section.

The steam engine was designed as a two-cylinder engine with internal all-control. The second coupled axle was driven. The driving axles were fixed in the frame.

The locomotives of the first delivery series were fitted with air brakes of the Schleifer type, which acted on both coupling axles. From the second series, Westinghouse air brakes were installed, which were later also retrofitted to the locomotives of the first series.

The locomotives were coupled with sä 3 T 12 and sä 2'2 'T 21 tenders from Saxony.
