SønderjyskE Ishockey is the ice hockey department of the Danish sports club Sønderjysk Elitesport from Vojens , a small town in Haderslev municipality . The ice hockey department was founded in 2004 after Sønderjysk Elitesport took over IK Sønderjylland , which had existed under different names since 1963. SønderjyskE Ishockey plays its home games in the 5,000-seat Frøs Arena, which opened in January 2011 .
history
The ice hockey department of SønderjyskE Ishockey was founded in 1963 under the name Vojens Ishockey Klub as an independent club. The Vojens IK was one of the best teams in the country in the late 1970s and early 1980s and was three times Danish champions between 1979 and 1982 within four years . From 1997 to 2003 the club went under the name Vojens Lions and in the 2003/04 season as IK Sønderjylland . Then the ice hockey club was taken over by the sports club Sønderjysk Elitesport and the ice hockey department was given its current name SønderjyskE Ishockey. Under the new club, the ice hockey department was able to quickly build on its old successes and has always reached at least the playoff semifinals in the Danish Metal Ligaen since the 2005/06 season . While they were champions in 2006 , 2009 , 2010 , 2013 , 2014 and 2015 , the team came third in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2012.
Until 2013, the team was looked after by Italo-Canadian Mario Simioni , who previously worked as head coach for the Krefeld Penguins from the German Ice Hockey League . The Canadian Dan Ceman, a former SønderjyskE player, has been coaching the team since 2013.

Stadion
The club played its home games until 2011 in Vojens Skøjtehal, which has a capacity of 2,300 . SønderjyskE was the only team in Denmark that played its games on a smaller ice rink, as is common in North America , especially in the National Hockey League . All other ice surfaces meet the standards of the IIHF . In January 2011, the club's new venue, the SE Arena (name sponsor is Syd Energi ), was inaugurated with a total of 5,000 spectators. In addition to standing room for 3,000 people, there are 2,000 seats available in eleven skyboxes and a 400-seat lounge.
