South Tyrolean cultural institute

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The South Tyrolean Cultural Institute is an association under private law with its seat in the South Tyrolean capital Bolzano ( Italy ). The main focus of activity is maintaining contact with the rest of the German-speaking and cultural area and organizing guest performances, guest concerts, exhibitions, author readings and scientific conferences.

history

The cultural institute was founded in Bolzano in 1954. Franz Hieronymus Riedl was among the co-founders . Due to the difficult political situation in South Tyrol, the institute initially wanted to take the initiative for the cultural continuation of the German-speaking population in South Tyrol. One of the first measures was the “ Merano University Weeks for Cultivating European Thought”, launched in 1954 , which took place in September. The aim of these first activities was also to resume the contacts with the rest of the German-speaking area that were broken off during fascism .

Theater guest performances and concerts

It was not until 1967 that theater guest performances began with the establishment of the House of Culture " Walther von der Vogelweide " in Bolzano. Mainly classics of world literature were on the program with plays by Goethe , Shakespeare and Schiller . Since the turn of the millennium, modern staged classics and contemporary pieces have increasingly found their place in the program. Outside the provincial capital Bolzano, theater guest performances and guest concerts are also offered in Merano , Brixen , Bruneck , Schlanders and Eppan . In children's and youth theater, attention is paid to topics that are suitable for children and young people so that the theater visit can be reworked in school.

Concerts with famous ensembles from abroad as well as recitals are on the program. A musical highlight every summer is the concert series Runkelsteiner Klangfeste , which was launched in 2000 in the castle courtyard of Runkelstein Castle .

Youth and children's book center

The youth and children's book center at the South Tyrolean Cultural Institute ( JuKiBuZ for short ) has been promoting reading since 1999 . In addition to children and young people, it is also aimed at parents, teachers and students. The JuKiBuZ provides information about newer children's literature, imparts reading ideas and has secondary literature, other materials and documents for reading promotion. It organizes writing workshops for children, reading clubs or reading seminars for children. Readings and author encounters for children are also part of the program.

Dance Bolzano

The annual dance festival “Tanz Bozen” offers courses and dance performances. The festival took place for the first time in 1985 under the name “Ballet Summer Bolzano” and over the years has become an integral part of European dance. The South Tyrolean Cultural Institute has been organizing the course program since 2003. Every year 25 to 30 renowned lecturers, supported by their own team of musicians, teach different dance styles.

Language position in the cultural institute

The Sprachstelle is an interface between linguistics and a broader public. It evaluates research results relevant to the special situation in South Tyrol in order to make them generally accessible. The language office tries to sensitize the public to linguistic issues, to clarify linguistic features and to encourage creative and conscious use of the German language. For this purpose, discussions, lectures, themed evenings and conferences on current language problems are organized and actions in the linguistic-cultural area are carried out. Through lectures and seminars, the Sprachstelle would like to raise the parents' awareness of the importance of language development for their children and to provide them with advice. In 2009 the "Forum Text und Literatur" was founded in cooperation with three other educational institutions , offering writing workshops and seminars in the field of literature.

Projects

Exhibitions and meetings

The cultural institute offers various individual and collective exhibitions, including the life and work of famous personalities. The winning sheets of the Austrian graphics competition are issued every two years. The organization of the “Austrian Book Exhibition”, which was held for the first time in 1955, is another focus of the institute. With the title Book Worlds in the Waltherhaus , the exhibition gives an annual overview of the new publications in Austrian and South Tyrolean book publishers, shows selected new publications of children's and youth literature from Germany and Switzerland and presents selected audio books . The exhibition is complemented by readings, discussions and workshops for children. The cultural institute organizes scientific conferences on a wide variety of topics as well as educational conferences for primary school teachers .
