The SC Düsseldorf-West (full name: Sportclub Düsseldorf-West 1919/50 eV ) is a sports club from the Oberkassel district of Düsseldorf . The first men's soccer team played in the Oberliga Niederrhein from 2015 to 2019 and from 2020 .

history

The club was created on June 19, 1972 through the merger of SSV Oberkassel with Sportfreunde Düsseldorf-Lörick . The most successful predecessor club was SSV Oberkassel, founded on March 19, 1919, whose footballers played in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region for four years. The merger partner Sportfreunde Düsseldorf-Lörick , founded on October 23, 1950, did not get beyond the district level in terms of sport. In addition to football and handball , the club also offers gymnastics and boules .

In 1990, the club rose to the regional league for the first time , but had to relegate to the district league again after a year. It was not until 2005 that the promotion succeeded, which was followed two years later by promotion to the Lower Rhine League. There, the Düsseldorf team achieved their greatest success in 2009 with seventh place, before the team relegated to the state league two years later. In 2015 the Düsseldorf runners-up were behind local rivals TV Kalkum-Wittlaer . In the following round of promotion to Oberliga Niederrhein, the team prevailed against 1. FC Kleve and FSV Duisburg and rose.

Four years later, the team was relegated to the national league. In the 2019/20 season, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the Düsseldorf team finished third and benefited from the association's decision to increase their promotion.
