Sabine Bock

Sabine Bock (* 1954 in Ilmenau ) is a German architectural historian , monument conservator and university professor. She published writings and essays on the architectural and building history of Mecklenburg , Pomerania and the Baltic Sea region.

Life

Sabine Bock studied architecture from 1973 to 1978 at the University of Architecture and Construction in Weimar . After graduating with a degree in engineering and architecture, she began studying research from 1978 to 1981. In 1982 she became a Dr.-Ing. PhD in monument conservation .

From 1981 to 1987 she worked initially as a conservator and later as senior curator at the Institute for Monument Preservation of the GDR in Schwerin . In 1987 she left the GDR. She worked in Munich until 1989 and then - from 1993 as chief curator - until 1997 in Bamberg as a research assistant at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .

In 1996/97 she took on a teaching position for renovation of old buildings and renovation technology in the department of architecture / interior design at the Coburg University of Applied Sciences . Since the winter semester of 1997 she has been a professor for renovation of old buildings, architectural history and monument preservation in Coburg . At the University of Bamberg she taught the subject “Practical Monument Preservation” as part of the Master’s degree in Heritage Conservation . In 2005 she retired for health reasons and has lived in Schwerin ever since.

She is married to the photographer and publisher Thomas Helms.

Awards

For the manuscript for the three-volume work Manorial houses on the estates and domains in Mecklenburg-Strelitz. In 2007, Sabine Bock was awarded the Annalize Wagner Prize for Architecture and History . On September 8, 2013, she received the Friedrich-Lisch Monument Prize of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which was awarded for the sixth time, and was praised when it was first awarded in 2008. In 2016, the Böckler-Mare-Balticum-Stiftung supported her preparation for the book project Herrenhäuser im Ostseergebiet with a travel grant.
