From the observation tower on the Sternstein the path runs south to Oberneukirchen and further into the valley of the Großer Rodl , from which you ascend to the Giselawarte on the Lichtenberg . The state capital Linz is hiked through and left south to reach the St. Florian monastery .

The Steyrtal is reached at Sierning and crossed at Steinbach an der Steyr . About the Kruck Brettl is Grünburger hut reached. After another descent into the Steyrtal, the river is followed to Hinterstoder . Now the eastern foothills of the Dead Mountains are crossed, the Hochmölbinghütte represents an important base.

After crossing the Ennstal , the route leads into the area of the Niedere Tauern . First the Planneralm is reached, after a short ascent to Donnersbachwald , descend. Cross the Gstemmerscharte to the Sölktal . The Haseneckscharte marks the crossing of the main Alpine ridge , on the south side you hike to St. Peter am Kammersberg , only the Stolzalpe now separates the hikers from the Murtal , which is reached near Murau .

In the Nock Mountains , the path turns temporarily west, over the peaks of the Frauenalpe and the Prankerhöhe the path leads to the spa town of Flattnitz . In the section that follows, the Salzsteigweg reaches its highest point on the Bretthöhe ( 2320  m above sea level ) before reaching the stage location Turracher Höhe .

From the striking summit of the Falkert it goes - now again mainly hiking in a southerly direction - to Wiedweg and over the Wöllaner Nock to Arriach . After crossing the western flank of the Gerlitzen , the Drau is followed briefly to Villach , now the course of the Gail indicates the direction to the destination in Arnoldstein .
