Cast at the Salzburg Festival 2012 to 2016
The list of casts for the Salzburg Festival 2012 to 2016 includes all artistic contributors in the Salzburg Festival's drama productions during the Drama Directorate Sven-Eric Bechtolf .
Conception
The German actor and director Bechtolf was artistic director Alexander Pereira's preferred candidate for directing the play. Pereira had already engaged Bechthold several times as an opera director at the Zurich Opera House and gave him the direction of the original version of Ariadne auf Naxos , as well as the three Da Ponte operas by Mozart , during his Salzburg management . Bechtolf's acting program is characterized by a broad range of styles and content and an international dimension. His most important decision concerned the Salzburg institution Jedermann , whose new production in 2013 he entrusted to a directing duo from the Anglo-Saxon area, the American Brian Mertes and the British Julian Crouch . The protagonists were Cornelius Obonya as Jedermann and Brigitte Hobmeier as woo . The reinterpretation achieved a high level of acceptance from the press and enthusiasm on the part of the public. In 2016, Miriam Fussenegger took on the role of affectionate .

The range of Bechtolf's program ranges from reinterpretations of classical texts to avant-garde and experimental productions, such as Klaus Händl's world premiere Meine Bienen. My lane. (2012), Katie Mitchell's Forbidden Zone or Suzanne Andrades 1927, Golem (both 2014). He opened the festival for puppet shows ( Thalias Kompagnons , 2012), machine theater ( Sans object , 2013) and plays for children (Theater-Rites 2012 and Nicolas Liautard 2013). Three co-productions with the Vienna Burgtheater achieved a high level of approval from the press and the public : in 2012 the Andrea Breth production of Kleist's Prince Friedrich von Homburg , in 2013 the Matthias Hartmann interpretation of Nestroys Lumpacivagabundus and in 2014 the Georg Schmiedleitner production of The Latter Days of humanity by Karl Kraus . The latter production also broke a taboo, as Karl Kraus had criticized, ridiculed and fought against the festival founders Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Max Reinhardt all his life .

The drama program of the festival summer 2015 seemed significantly slimmed down, which was due on the one hand to the financial scarcity of the festival and on the other hand to the double burden of Bechtolf, who - after Pereira's premature departure - also took over the interim management of the festival for the years 2015 and 2016. In addition, the Young Directors Project had to be terminated after the sponsor left . Three top-class productions have been announced for 2016: Shakespeare's Der Sturm , staged by British director Deborah Warner , who was first committed to Salzburg by Peter Stein in the 1990s, Beckett's Endspiel in a co-production with the Burgtheater and with Nicholas Ofczarek and Michael Maertens in leading roles and 43 years after the Salzburg premiere, Thomas Bernhard's The Ignorant and the Insane - with the artistic director Bechtolf in a leading role.
