Schrievers (colloquially sometimes also called "Hoher Berg") is a district west of Rheydt . It is located in the district south of the independent city Mönchengladbach in North Rhine-Westphalia between the A61 in the west and the B 230 in the east.

Schrievers is surrounded by a few green spaces or green belts (Landwehr green belt; Hoher-Berg allotment gardens; Pongser Feld; Watelerstraße-Preyerstraße old cemetery). The district is connected to public transport by bus line 024.

history

Characterized at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century by companies in the textile industry and small settlements of the textile workers who worked there, at the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s the existing buildings, which had been predominantly one, two and three-story, were joined by a few more modern, higher buildings Social housing building too. Numerous smaller shops (grocery stores, butchers, bakeries) closed in the 1990s. Although Rheydt was traditionally predominantly Protestant , there were also a large number of Catholics living in Schrievers , some of whom visited the Sacred Heart Church in the adjacent Morr, and some of them also the Marienkirche in Rheydt town center.
