Sebastian Freiherr von Rotenhan (born November 1, 1949 in Bamberg ) is a German forest owner , founding member of the Ecological Hunting Association (ÖJV) and a former Bavarian politician ( CSU ).

Life

Sebastian Freiherr von Rotenhan comes from the old aristocratic Rotenhan family . His parents were Gottfried Freiherr von Rotenhan (1917–1993) and Elisabeth born. Baroness von Thüngen (1923–2011). In 1969 he graduated from high school in Schondorf am Ammersee . He then did military service as an officer candidate until 1971 and studied business administration , including as a scholarship holder in St. Paul , Minnesota , USA . He has been head of a family farm and forestry business and captain of the reserve since 1978 . Von Rotenhan is a forest owner in Rentweinsdorf in Franconia , in Hohenstein-Ernstthal in Saxony and in Reuthen in southern Brandenburg , where he also acquired the manor house in the park in 2001 and saved it from deterioration.

From 1989 to 2001 he was the federal chairman of the Working Group on Natural Forest Management (ANW) , whose principles he consistently implemented in his forests. The forester Dr. Georg Sperber . From 1996, von Rotenhan, together with environmental associations, trade unions and (initially a few) other forest owners, actively participated in setting up an FSC working group in Germany and was a member of its founding board.

Von Rotenhan was district chairman of the Junge Union from 1981 to 1985 and market council from 1978 to 1996 , and from 1984 to 1996 district councilor . As a member of the district council, von Rotenhan played a key role in the fact that the incorporation of Ermershausen had to be withdrawn as a result of the 1978 regional reform almost 15 years later (1994). From 1998 to 2008 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament . Von Rotenhan played a key role in the reform of the Bavarian State Forest Administration . Since 1998 he has been calling for the dissolution of the standardized forest offices and the creation of structures under private law for the state forests, with success in the end . These proposals were implemented as part of the administrative reform. In the CSU parliamentary group, von Rotenhan was one of the " Stoiber critics". He was no longer available for election to the state parliament in Bavaria in 2008 . In June 2009 he resigned from the CSU .

Von Rotenhan is the great-great-grandson of Hermann Freiherr von Rotenhan (1800-1858), who was President of the Bavarian State Parliament and a member of the St. Paul Church. He is an Evangelical Lutheran denomination, married to Friederike von Dallwitz (* 1953) and has seven children.
