Sellerio Editore

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sellerio is an Italian publishing house founded in Palermo in 1969 by Elvira Sellerio and her husband, photographer Enzo Sellerio . Leonardo Sciascia and the Palermitan folklorist Antonino Buttitta , son of the poet Ignazio Buttitta , were among the intellectual fathers of the publishing idea. Novels and essays as well as photo and art books are published. Translations by ancient and medieval authors have found their place in the La memoria series , as have texts by non-Italian writers. In the meantime, the publishing program has also been supplemented by a series of narratives with commentary booklets intended for use in schools ( Narrativa per la scuola ), in which Apuleius can be found alongside Camilleri and Thomas Hardy and Mary Lamb or Alberto Moravia . Historical topics are also dealt with: the publisher has published unknown sources on the history of the Inquisition in Sicily and some basic treatises on it, some as new editions of works that have long been out of print. There are also writings on archeology and building history and some scientific conference proceedings with reference to Sicily. There is also an Italian translation of the Diodorus library .

The layout of the paperback series is characterized by the cover picture on the cover, for which, in addition to historical works of art, works by contemporary artists, mainly from Sicily, are often chosen. In the early years, the use of high-quality paper from Fabriano's paper mills was also regularly pointed out.

Elvira Sellerio died on August 3, 2010 at the age of 74 in Palermo. Enzo Sellerio died in Palermo on February 22, 2012, three days before his 88th birthday.
