Localization of Bavaria in Germany

The Coburg-Eckardtsberg transmitter is a facility of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation to broadcast FM and DAB on the Eckardtsberg in Coburg .

From August 18, 1951 to March 1, 1969, the system also served as a medium wave transmitter. The transmission frequency of the system was 1484 kHz until May 23, 1959, then 1602 kHz until it was shut down. Originally a 1 kW transmitter from "Western Electric" was used as the transmitter, which was replaced on March 16, 1953 by a 3 kW transmitter from Bayerischer Rundfunk. This was replaced on April 3, 1958 by the 1 kW transmitter once used in Weiden an der Oberpfalz, whose transmission power was reduced to 250 watts on February 1, 1969.

The Coburg medium wave transmitter, which used a 49.1 meter high self-radiating tubular mast that was insulated from the ground, was only in operation during the night hours until July 1, 1961. After the shutdown, the system was dismantled and relocated to Hof / Saale.

The first VHF transmitter on the Eckardtsberg went into operation on May 21, 1951.

The 68 meter high antenna carrier, which has been in use since 1995, is unique. It consists of a precast concrete tower similar to the one used at many cell phone sites. The tower is guyed and has a butterfly antenna on top. Such a construction is rare.

The radio program of Antenne Bayern is broadcast by the Meeder transmitter .

DAB on channel 12D was broadcast in vertical polarization and in single-frequency mode with other transmitters until December 16, 2013 . The network operator Bayern Digital Radio GmbH cited network optimization and cost stability in terms of distribution costs as reasons for the shutdown.
