Severin Fiala

Severin Fiala (* 1985 in Horn ) is an Austrian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Severin Fiala studied screenwriting at the Vienna Film Academy . His uncle is the film director, screenwriter and producer Ulrich Seidl .

Most of his films are created in artistic collaborations. In 2009 he made his first short film Elefantenhaut together with Ulrike Putzer. The film celebrated its premiere at the International Short Film Festival in Oberhausen 2009 and won several awards.

In 2003, together with Valentin Fiala, Nikolaus Eckhard and Klaus Haidl, he founded Ölfilm Productions, a collective that made various so-called oil films, including The End of Walnut Grove , which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2013.

Severin Fiala has been working primarily with Veronika Franz for years . With her he made his feature film debut Kern in 2012 , a documentary about Peter Kern . This was followed by Ich seh Ich seh , their first feature film together. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and subsequently won 26 awards, including the “Melies d'or” for the best European genre film of 2015. At the Austrian Film Awards 2016, Fiala and Franz were awarded the categories Best Director and Best Feature Film excellent.

The Lodge , a British-American co-production, is the third feature film that Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz made together.

Private

Severin Fiala has been working on a voluntary basis as an emergency paramedic since 2004, and he is also the deputy head of the local branch at the Horn Red Cross.
