Sevdalin Mintschew Angelow ( Bulgarian Севдалин Минчев Ангелов , English transcription Sevdalin Minchev Angelov ; born July 25, 1974 in Gorna Orjachowiza ) is a former Bulgarian weightlifter .

Career

Mintschew began his 14-year international career in 1991 with the European Championships in Władysławowo , where he was able to occupy 2nd place in a duel with a flyweight of up to 52 kg with 252.5 kg (110.0 / 142.5 kg). At the World Championships in Donaueschingen in the same year , Mintschew was able to increase to 257.5 kg and again won silver in a duel, behind his compatriot Iwan Iwanow , who scored 272.5 kg.

In preparation for the 1992 Olympic Games, Mintschew went to the European Championships in Szekszárd and the Junior World Championships in Varna , where he lifted a total of 255.0 kg and 267.5 kg, respectively, and both times won gold in a duel. At the World Cup in Varna, however, Mintschew entered the class up to 56 kg. However, he could not secure an Olympic medal at the games in Barcelona , as he could only make his initial attempt of 112.5 kg in the snatch and none of his attempts in the push. His initial loads of 112.5 kg and 140.0 kg would have placed him in the top five. The winner was Ivanov with 265.0 kg. In the same year Mintschew started at the European Junior Championship in the class up to 56 kg, in which he lifted 272.5 kg (122.5 / 150.0 kg) and thus confidently secured all three gold medals.

Also in 1993, after the change in weight classes, Mintschew started at the World and European Championships for seniors and juniors. His best result here was 275.0 kg in the class up to 54 kg at the Junior World Championships in Cheb , behind Mutlu who lifted the same load but was lighter. He continued his series of competitions in 1994 and competed again in all four major international championships. At the European Junior Championships in Rome he increased to 287.5 kg (127.5 / 160.0 kg) in the class up to 59 kg. In 1995 he lifted 302.5 kg (137.5 / 160.0 kg) in the same class at the European Senior Championships in Warsaw and was second behind his compatriot Nikolaj Peschalow with 305.0 kg. At the World Cup in the same year, however, he only achieved 285.0 kg. The winner was the Greek Leonidas Sampanis with 305.0 kg.

After Mintschew was able to win silver at the European Championships in 1996 with a duel of 287.5 kg (130.0 / 157.5 kg) in the class up to 59 kg, he trained for his second Olympic Games in Atlanta in the class up to 54 kg , possibly to avoid strong competition. Here he was able to win bronze with 277.5 kg (125.0 / 152.5 kg). Despite his long successful career, it was his only Olympic medal. The winner was Mutlu with 287.5 kg.

In 1997 Mintschew competed for the European Championship up to 54 kg, at the World Cup he then switched again to the class up to 59 kg and after the second change in weight classes, Mintschew finally started in the new featherweight up to 62 kg. In this class he was able to achieve 310.0 kg (140.0 / 170.0 kg) at the World Championships in Lahti in 1998 and thus won bronze behind Sabanis with 320.0 kg and Peschalow with 317.5 kg. He won the European Championship in 1999 in A Coruña with 317.5 kg and relegated Sabanis and Peschalow, who meanwhile started for Croatia, to second and third place. At the World Championships in Athens in the same year, however, he had to be satisfied with the bronze medal in a duel. Minchev lifted 315.0 kg (142.5 / 172.5 kg). The winner was Le Maosheng with 320.0 kg, ahead of Sabanis with 315.0 kg, who was lighter than Mintschew.

For the European Championships in his own country in 2000, Mintschew increased again and was able to win silver with 322.5 kg (145.0 / 177.5 kg) behind Peschalow with 325.0 kg. Third was Naim Süleymanoğlu with 310.0 kg. In his now third Olympics Mintschew lifted 317.5 kg and was therefore originally a third party, but his medal was again stripped after positive for diuretics was tested.

After his suspension, Mintschew went back to the EM 2004 in Kiev for the first time, where he was able to achieve 302.5 kg (137.5 / 165.0 kg) and thus won gold in a duel and silver in both individual disciplines. Building on this performance, he had a realistic chance of winning a medal at his fourth Olympic Games in Athens . However, he could only bring his initial load in tearing and failed in all further attempts in tearing and pushing. His initial loads of 137.5 kg and 170.0 kg would have been enough for third place. The winner was Shi Zhiyong with 325.0 kg in front of Le Maosheng with 312.5 kg.

At the 2005 European Championships in Sofia, Minchev was able to bring in 297.5 kg (132.5 / 165.0 kg) in the duel, which brought him silver behind Mutlu with 307.5 kg. He completed his last World Cup in Doha in 2005 . With a feather weight of up to 62 kg, he lifted 287.0 kg (125.0 / 162.0 kg) and thus took fourth place. In 2006 he went back to the European Championships in Władysławowo and won his last international medal with 150.0 kg and thus third place in the pushing. He lifted a total of 270.0 kg (120.0 / 150.0 kg) and was fourth.
