Sheik Yerbouti (Sheikh Yerbouti, corruption of Shake Your Booty ( Shake your ass )) is an album by Frank Zappa . It was released on March 3, 1979 and reachednumber 21on the Billboard 200 charts. Individual pieces on the album also reached positions in the singles charts, andin 1995 Bobby Brown made the top ten charts again in Scandinavia. With over two million sales, this album is Zappa's most successful.

The album is based on pieces recorded live that have been reworked in the studio and provided with additional or alternative overdubs . In the piece Rubber Shirt , music journalist Barry Miles sees Zappa's first attempt to consciously use a technique that he later referred to as xenochrony : he played two audio tracks together that were recorded completely independently of one another.

Sheik Yerbouti reached number 21 on the Billboard charts and is one of Zappa's best-selling albums. David Fricke in Rolling Stone Magazine rated the instrumentation as "refreshingly straightforward" and attributed this to the fact that Zappa was reluctant to borrow from doo-wop or musique concrète .
