Mount Shimbiris (also called Shimbir Beris ) is the highest point in Somalia . It is 2460 m high. It is located in the Somali highlands in northern Somalia, northwest of Erigabo . The Shimbiris lies on the territory of the internationally not recognized Somaliland .
The name Shimbiris means "place of the birds".
For centuries the mountain was marked with an incorrect altitude. Only recently using SRTM data from NASA has it been established that the previously specified height of 2416 m was too low.
