Siberian Meat Grinder (SMG) is a crossover / thrash metal band from Moscow . The members of the band, founded in 2011, originally came from different parts of Russia and got together in Moscow. The band plays metal, but feels part of the punk / hardcore scene. The members were already active in other bands in Moscow such as What We Feel (Hardcore), Razor Bois (Oi) and Moscow Death Brigade (Hip-Hop). Several members of the band come from the graffiti scene, which is reflected in the band's graffiti-heavy artwork, numerous graffiti scenes in the videos and a very stylish appearance to the outside world.

The band is known in Germany primarily for their live performances. The European tours mainly lead through youth centers, squats and other meeting places of the left scene. The band performed at the Brutal Assault , With Full Force , Groezrock , Pod Parou , Fluff Fest or Resist to Exist festivals and went on tour with Terror , Sick of It All , Nasty , Deez Nuts and Pennywise .

The band's videos and artwork played an important role from the start. In addition to the band members, other Russian artists worked for the band again and again. The artwork in particular revolves around the "Bear Tsar" - the ruler of the Siberian hell and a kind of mascot of the band. The band claims to do this mainly for style reasons. On the one hand because they have fascinated masked superheroes since childhood, but on the other hand also as a visible counter-sign to self-exposure via social media . These tours have taken place annually since 2013. The band sees itself as part of the DIY movement, publishes on its own record label "Siberian Metal Works" and also books its own tours. According to singer Vladimir, it is a major problem to get visas for the European Union for the six band members to get.

The tours also made the band better known in the international scene. Destiny Records signed SMG. Vinnie Stigma from Agnostic Front appeared in her video for Walking Tall .

The band was originally formed by the members as a side project to their other bands and has a more open approach. With SMG, the lyrics are less political than with the Moscow Death Brigade, for example. The music is stylistically more varied. In addition to Thrash Metal, which forms the backbone of most songs, there are also hip-hop, stoner rock or ska influences.
