Simple Song # 3 , also Simple Song Number 3 or Simple Song No. 3 , is a song by the South Korean singer Sumi Jo . The song comes from the film Eternal Youth (2015) and was written by David Lang .

background

Director Paolo Sorrentino commissioned the film composer David Lang to write the film music for his latest work Eternal Youth . He had known David Lang, who became known as a composer of new music , since his film La Grande Bellezza - The Great Beauty (2013), for which he had already used a song by Lang. Lang had the task of writing the music before the film was finished, especially since the individual melodies had to be used during the shoot. This is how Lang received early versions of the script on which he based his music. Simple Song # 3 was supposed to create a strong emotional moment towards the end of the film.

The song was sung by Sumi Jo. She was musically supported by violinist Viktoria Mullova and the BBC Symphony Orchestra . Production was carried out by Nicola Giuliano, Francesca Cima and Carlotta Calori. As the title suggests, it is a series of pieces, of which only # 3 was used in the film.

Sumi Jo plays herself in the film and sings the song to the Queen of England. Fred Ballinger, the composer originally refused to perform the song because he didn't want anyone other than his wife to sing it. However, this is irreversibly affected. Ultimately, he agrees and conducts the orchestra himself.

Prices

The highly acclaimed song was nominated for the Critics' Choice Awards and the Houston Film Critics Society Awards and the 2016 Golden Globe in the Best Song category, but did not win any of the awards. On January 14, 2016, it was announced that David Lang's song number # 3 was nominated for " Best Song " at the 2016 Academy Awards .
