action

The less than successful lounge singer Deloris van Cartier witnesses a murder. Her married lover, Vince LaRocca , an important man in the underworld and responsible for the murder, gives his followers the task of eliminating them.

Because Deloris is the only witness, after her escape, Lieutenant Eddie Souther hides her as sister Mary Clarence against her will in a Catholic monastery. There she has considerable problems getting used to it; Finally she is instructed by the Mother Superior to sing along in the nuns' choir, whose singing skills are not exactly edifying.

But Mary Clarence can give the group a clear structure, attracts talents and becomes the leader of the choir, which she teaches the gospel of the Harlem tradition. The new program of the choir attracts many people to the church again; Finally, Pope John Paul II found out about the now famous group on a trip to America and announced that he would be visiting for a concert.

But before the nuns can please the Pope with their singing, an internal police spy gives the gangster Vince a clue about the whereabouts of his former lover. Deloris is kidnapped, but the sisters of the convent do not give up and start a rescue operation. In Reno arrived, there's a chase through the casino with ample confusion as Deloris and the nuns their habit carry. The spy is exposed and Lt. Souther arrives just in time to save Deloris and arrest Vince.

In the final scene, the sisters give the expected concert for the Pope. Sister Mary Clarence - in her habit , but without a veil - again helps the choir to perform brilliantly.

IMDb

“Not particularly exciting, but pleasing and with a light, winking comedy narrated comedy with a gangster film influence, which lives for a long time from the soundtrack and does not use the religious milieu as a framework for action without benevolence. A story that is naive and emotionally oriented for the broad family audience. "
