Skywalker Ranch is the name of a ranch owned by director and film producer George Lucas and on which the majority of his film production is located. The ranch is named after the character Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars films. It is located in a remote area near Nicasio in Marin County, California .

It is located on Lucas Valley Road, although the street was not named after George Lucas, but after a large landowner from the same area. The ranch is not open to the public.

It was built up bit by bit from September 1978 (previously it was the Bull Tail Ranch) and, according to the Wall Street Journal, cost up to $ 100 million. After local ranchers complained that the Skywalker Ranch was polluting the surrounding area, Lucasfilm bought 12 km² of additional land, increasing the ranch to a total of 19 km². Only 60,000 m² are actually used.

Skywalker Ranch was designed by George Lucas to be a "filmmaker's retreat," not a headquarters for its operations. The main offices of Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic and LucasArts are located in the Letterman Digital Arts Center in Presidio near San Francisco . Lucas himself doesn't live on the ranch.

Others

The main house of the Skywalker Ranch inspired the developers of the computer adventure Maniac Mansion for the building in the game.
