Sofie Carsten Nielsen (born May 24, 1975 in Birkerød ) is a Danish politician ( Radical Venstre ).

Life

From 1995 to 2002 she studied political science at Københavns Universitet ; she completed her studies with a Danish equivalent of a Masters. From 2000 to 2001 she completed a second degree at the College of Europe in Bruges . Here she received her Masters in European Politics and Administration.

Following her studies, she worked for two years, from 2002 to 2004, as a political advisor to the European Parliament. She then worked in the Danish Ministry of Equality until 2009. From 2010 to 2011 she was the “Political Head” of the Ingeniørforeningen i Danmark union . From the 2011 election she was a member of the Folketing . She was Minister for Higher Education and Research in the Helle Thorning-Schmidt II government (2014–2015).

Nielsen is married and has two children.
