history

Sony Pictures Animation was named after the success of the Imageworks- produced animated short The ChubbChubbs! founded. The company's theatrical productions are distributed by Columbia Pictures , while direct-to-video releases are distributed by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment .

The company's first feature film, Open Season , was released in September 2006. His greatest success was the studio's most recent film, Spider-Man: A New Universe , which was released in German cinemas in December 2018 and won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for best animated film.
