The St. Louis Eagles ( IPA : [seɪnt ˈluːɪs ˈiːɡəls] ) were a professional ice hockey team from St. Louis , Missouri . For the 1934/35 season , the Ottawa Senators team moved to St. Louis. After only a year, the game was stopped there.

history

After the former top team of the NHL, the Ottawa Senators, got into financial difficulties, the decision was made to move the team to St. Louis. Eagles was chosen as the team name and the logo was modeled on that of the St. Louis-based Anhäuser-Bush Brewery .

At the time, St. Louis was the seventh largest city in the United States , making it significantly larger than Ottawa. As early as 1932 an attempt had been made to send a team to St. Louis, but this was rejected because of the high travel costs.

Since the Eagles had taken the place of the Senators, they played the schedule for Ottawa in the 1934/35 season . Instead of playing many games in nearby cities like Detroit or Chicago , they traveled very often to Montreal and Toronto . Both the exertion of the train journey and, above all, the immense travel costs consumed the budget and so the game had to be stopped at the end of the season.
