The Lemgo city bus serves local public transport in the city of Lemgo ( Lippe district , North Rhine-Westphalia ). A covered bus platform was set up as a bus meeting point at the western end of the pedestrian zone (Mittelstrasse). All buses arrive there every quarter of an hour, at the same time, allowing quick, easy transfers (rendezvous system). The operators are Stadtwerke Lemgo GmbH .

The city ​​buses of the medium-sized town with a little over 40,000 inhabitants carry around 2 million passengers annually. The system has received a lot of attention and is a model for several other city bus systems. Although the city incurs high costs every year (around € 1.6 million or € 40 per inhabitant in 2009), the advantages are great: Relief of the narrow streets in the historic inner city area. The reduction in inner-city individual traffic brings savings in the maintenance of the road network. The attractiveness of the city center is increased - since the introduction of the city bus network, the frequency of use in the pedestrian zone has increased significantly.

Dense regular traffic is offered (15 minutes on weekdays) with a rendezvous system. The station is served by one line - coordinated with the train schedule. Lemgo has an hourly connection to the railway network through the Begatalbahn . The line paths run in a straight line, main lines are laid out as diameter lines . Loss of travel time through detours remains low. The regional buses to Detmold , Bad Salzuflen , Barntrup and Blomberg (among others) have not been integrated into the system, they continue to run through a street parallel to the pedestrian zone and end at the train station. There are also several lines for school traffic .

The districts of Hörstmar (rail connection) and Vossheide are not connected to the network. According to Lieme, there is parallel operation of city and regional buses, but the latter does not serve the town center. At the bus meeting point there is an information office for timetable information with ticket sales. The city bus company sells subscription season tickets with additional cultural benefits (“LemGoCard”) at a significantly reduced rate compared to the “six tariff” valid for Lemgo.

When designing the vehicles and also the stops, attention is paid to a high degree of recognition. The basic color is light blue. There is a large, colored route network map at central stops. All stops are equipped with light blue boards on which the route, travel and operating times are shown in large letters. There is no large-scale advertising on the vehicles. The level of awareness of the city bus system among the citizens of Lemgo is therefore very high.

As part of a pilot project within the Lemgo Digital real-life laboratory , the city buses were equipped with appropriate sensors by the Lemgo Fraunhofer Institute in mid-2018 . In addition to recording punctuality, the aim was to implement a real-time display of the position and current delay of the individual buses. This information is made available to the bus drivers and passengers via various interfaces, such as an app, graphics-capable outdoor displays and as an exemplary implementation in Google Maps .

Lemgo-Lüttfeld stop

From 1992 there were city bus routes in Lemgo, which, however, still carried out large loop journeys. In 1994 Stadtbus Lemgo GmbH was founded with the participation of the three previous operators of Stadtlinien Busverkehr Ostwestfalen GmbH , Linke-Lemgo GmbH and Karl Köhne - Extertalbahn GmbH (33.3% shares each, Karl Köhne since 2008 50%). The city bus system was introduced in September 1994 with three lines, based on the system founded in 1991 in Dornbirn ( Vorarlberg ). Extensions took place after a short time. Since 1996 there has been a 15-minute cycle during peak times. The station was initially not served directly (stop in Paulinenstrasse) and there was also no coordinated timetable for the trains, which later changed. The last extension was in 2005 the line 5 (885) to Talle (municipality of Kalletal ) previously operated by the regional bus . In particular, it connects to the Kirchheide district, which has not yet been supplied . At the end of July 2007, the new Lemgo-Lüttfeld rail terminal went into operation, and line 2 (882) has also been connected to the railways since then.

The buses run until around 7.30 p.m. (on Saturdays until around 5 p.m., no service on Sundays). In the times outside of the regular service there is a shared taxi offer.

Rates

Lemgo belongs to the tariff association "Der Sechser" ( OWL Verkehr GmbH ). The Lemgoer Marketinggesellschaft issues discounted monthly and annual subscriptions. The LemGoCard (also available as a 9 o'clock card) also offers discounts for cultural events and for admission to Lemgo museums. Both personal and transferable card versions are offered.
