Stefan Georgiev ( Bulgarian Стефан Георгиев ; born May 20, 1977 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian ski racer . He took part in seven World Championships and four Olympic Games and started in the World Cup from 1998 to 2011 .

Career

After a few starts and initial successes in junior competitions and FIS races , Georgiev took part in the Junior World Championship in Hoch-Ybrig in March 1996 . There his best result was the 20th place in the slalom. From the next winter Georgiev took part in the general world championships . He had to accept a few failures at first and only saw the finish twice in the six races of his first three world championships. In St. Moritz 2003 he achieved a top 30 result for the first time with 26th place in the combination and two years later in Bormio he improved to 22nd place in this discipline. After the 2007 World Cup in Åre was less successful, he reached at his seventh and last world championship in 2009 in Val-d'Isère again a 22nd place in the super combined and with 16th place in the slalom his best world championship result.

From 1998 to 2010 Georgiev also took part in the Winter Olympic Games . In contrast to the World Championships, he achieved his best results earlier, namely with 16th place in the combination of Salt Lake City in 2002 and 22nd place in the slalom of Nagano in 1998 . At the 2006 and 2010 games , a 25th place in slalom was his best result, although 2010 was the only time he took part in all five competitions in Vancouver and only failed to finish in the downhill.

In the World Cup , Georgiev started in October 1998, but did not make it into the points in any of his 60 World Cup races. Mostly he started in the technical disciplines, but was never able to qualify for the second round of the top 30 in either the slalom (40 starts) or the giant slalom (10 starts). He achieved his only countable results in the fast downhill and super-G disciplines as well as in the super combination, in which he achieved his best World Cup results in December 2009 with 34th place in Beaver Creek and 37th in Val-d'Isère . His best results in Downhill and Super-G are also from the beginning of the 2009/10 season : These were a 47th place in the Downhill of Beaver Creek and a 51st place in the Super-G of Lake Louise . In the European Cup , Georgiev achieved a place in the fastest 30 six times. The best result was a 22nd place in the downhill from Bansko on March 8, 2008.

Georgiev contested his last World Cup race in February 2011 in Bansko, Bulgaria. He then took part in the national championships and FIS races in his home country before the multiple Bulgarian champion ended his active career at the end of the 2010/2011 season.
