Stefan Wannenwetsch (born January 19, 1992 in Langenau ) is a German soccer player . He is under contract with VfR Aalen .

Career

youth

He started playing football at the age of five with the Bambini des SF Rammingen. In 2002, when he was ten, he switched to the youth department of the former Bundesliga club SSV Ulm 1846 . In the following years he went through the junior classes up to B-youth, with whom he competed in the U-17 Bundesliga in the 2008/09 season . After the season he moved to Munich - Giesing to TSV 1860 and played there under coach Alexander Schmidt in the U19. In the following two seasons 2009/10 and 2010/11 he played for the U19 of the Munich Lions in the A-Jugend-Bundesliga Süd / Südwest. In total, he was used in 36 league games in both years, in addition he played in the first of the two semi-finals of the German A-Youth Championship 2011, where the sixths were subject to 1. FC Kaiserslautern . Wannenwetsch had already played for the professional team for the first time in March 2011, he had played in two test matches.

Beginnings in junior football

In 2011 Wannenwetsch moved up to the squad of the U23, who played in the Regionalliga Süd . In the 2011/12 season he was used 24 times and scored one goal. After the league reform implemented in the summer of 2012, TSV 1860 became second representative in the new Bavarian regional league . The U23 was also rejuvenated to a U21 and henceforth trained by Alexander Schmidt. In the 2012/13 season he was almost always used in the first 21 games, only once he was absent due to a yellow card suspension . In these 20 appearances, he scored twice in goal.

After Alex Schmidt had succeeded Reiner Maurer as coach of the second division team of the Sechzger on November 18, 2012 , he took over some U21 players, including Wannenwetsch, in the professional squad. On November 24, 2012, he made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga when he was on the starting line-up for a game at Union Berlin . On December 14, 2012, Wannenwetsch finally signed a professional contract until June 30, 2016. By the end of the season, he played a total of six times in the 2nd Bundesliga and once in the DFB Cup . In the second half of the season, he mostly led the U21s as captain and won the championship title in the Regionalliga Bayern with the team. He also led the little lions in the first of the two promotion games against SV Elversberg . After a red card in this game, he was suspended for the second leg, in which the Sechzger could not make up the deficit from the first leg and were therefore subject to the Saarlanders.

In the following season he was used in seven games until winter. In 2014 he sat on the bench several times, but was no longer used. In total, he played 13 times for the sixties in the 2nd division and twice in the DFB Cup . For the second team he was used in 57 regional league games, scoring three goals.

Change to Ingolstadt

A week before the first matchday of the 2014/15 season , Wannenwetsch switched to league rivals FC Ingolstadt 04. He made his Bundesliga debut on December 12, 2015 (16th matchday) in the 2-0 defeat in the away game against FC Bayern Munich with a substitute for Almog Cohen in the 53rd minute.

Change to Hansa Rostock

In February 2016 he switched to third division club Hansa Rostock , where he signed a contract that was valid until June 2017. Wannenwetsch made his first appearance for the Hanseatic League on matchday 24 against the Stuttgarter Kickers . He walked the full distance of 90 minutes. Under coach Christian Brand , Wannenwetsch was also used twice in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state cup , including in the final against FC Schönberg 95 , which was won after penalties (4: 3). The "Kogge" thus secured participation in the DFB Cup 2016/17 . However, Wannenwetsch and Hansa lost in the first round against the second division Fortuna Düsseldorf with 0: 3. He scored the first competitive goal for the Hanseatic League on matchday 10 of the 2016/17 season to 1-0 against SC Paderborn 07 in the 62nd minute of the game. In the end he reached 15th place with Hansa in the 3rd league and was again the state cup winner, because MSV Pampow was defeated in the final of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Cup (3: 1).

In June 2017, Wannenwetsch extended his contract in Rostock for another two years. His new Hansa coach Pavel Dotchev gave him his trust not only in the DFB Cup match against Bundesliga club Hertha BSC (0-2), but also in 35 third-division games in which he scored three times. Another, now the third time, Wannenwetsch was able to win the state cup. The final game against FC Mecklenburg Schwerin (2: 1) was won by just under . In the spring of 2019, the midfielder turned down offers from FC Hansa to extend his expiring contract. He was the longest-serving professional in the club at the time.

VfR Aalen

After several months without a club, the midfielder signed a contract in September 2019 with VfR Aalen, who had been relegated to the Regionalliga Südwest , until June 2020 .
