Steffen Osvath

Steffen Wilhelm Osvath (born June 9, 1978 in Aalen ) is a German object and photography artist . He lives and works in Stuttgart and Aalen.

Life

After dropping out of his studies at PH Schwäbisch Gmünd , Osvath went to the Hall Academy of Arts in Schwäbisch Hall in 2000 , and one year later to the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . There he studied art education with Wolfhart Hähnel in the works class up to the state examination in 2007. He then studied intermedial design with Joachim Fleischer until the state examination in 2010. At the beginning of 2018, he and Liane Preuss founded the Microssage , a mobile gallery.

Osvath impressed for his work the concept of Fotodelere what from the Latin derived (delere: pay off, reduce, destroy).

Osvath ruins daily superficiality. He uses anonymous, photographic family finds: embarrassing, private, banal "corrects" to open everyday infernos. His interventions are sometimes obvious, sometimes easily overheard. In his search for photographs, Steffen Osvath turns to those shots that were not intended for public viewing. There are unstable physical and psychological moments that, after the artistic revision, no longer refer to the inwardness of the person depicted, but rather to the social conditions within which these photographs were created and ultimately lost. The personal absence caused by time and artist paradoxically increases into an ambiguous presence. Images of family celebrations, children, old people, soldiers and files are imprinted on the viewer. They flow together before our eyes and result in a socio-cultural typology, with each viewer constructing a story individually in his or her head. A group of hikers turns into a refugee troop next to the soldier; next to the blind woman, the hikers become lemmings who march into nowhere. The time component dissolves and is at the same time a look back, a view and a view.

In this context, the Fotodelere series is a model for our society. It is a collective reinterpretation and overpainting of the human-given primeval gray.

As a summary for his work inventory , Osvath invents the term Ossidee , which is made up of his name, the idea and an odyssey .
