Struveshof is a residential area in Ludwigsfelde in Brandenburg .

history

In 1887 the city of Berlin acquired the Vorwerk of the Schenkendorf estate in order to create sewer fields here . In 1896 a one-class school was set up in the Vorwerk used as a sheep farm . The first documentary mention as Vorwerk Struveshof comes from 1905.

Around 1900 the Berlin city administration began to set up educational institutions for orphans and neglected children outside the city. In 1914, the construction of the Landerziehungsheim of the city of Berlin in Struveshof began. The home was inaugurated three years later. It was intended to house boys between the ages of twelve and 18 and was supposed to be self-sufficient through its own farm. In 1928 Struveshof became an independent municipality, which it remained until it was incorporated into Ludwigsfelde in 1961.

The home was badly damaged in 1943 during a bomb attack by US and British bombers on the nearby Genshagen aircraft engine plant . In 1945, after the invasion of the Red Army, a hospital and a Soviet headquarters were built. The facility later became a youth workshop that existed until 1960. On August 1, 1961, Struveshof was incorporated into Ludwigsfelde.

In 1962, Struveshof became the seat of the Central Institute for Further Education for Teachers and Educators (ZIW, later Central Institute for Further Education for Teachers, Educators and School Officials ). The institute gained in importance in the following years thanks to the support of Margot Honecker . After the fall of the Wall in 1990 , the institute was closed. But even after the political change, the place retained its importance as an “educational location”. In 2003, the Brandenburg State Institute for Education (PLIB), which was founded in 1991, and the Brandenburg Media Education Center, which was founded in the same year but only moved to Struveshof in 2001, became the State Institute for School and Media Berlin-Brandenburg .

At the timetable change on December 9, 2012, the new Ludwigsfelde-Struveshof stop with two 140-meter-long side platforms was put into operation as a replacement for the Genshagener Heide station, which was abandoned for passenger traffic, about two kilometers further west on the Berlin outer ring . By the end of 2013, the stop was completed by a pedestrian bridge and a P + R parking lot . A total of 3.9 million euros was invested for this.

Place name

The name is derived from Gerhard Struve (1835–1904). This Berlin city council was responsible for the Rieselfelder around Berlin and was committed to socially endangered young people and children.
