Such a Surge (spelling: Such A Surge ) was a band from Braunschweig . In her music she combined elements from different styles, including metal , rap , punk rock , hardcore and jazz . This variety of styles was also reflected in various side projects and collaborations with other artists. A hallmark of the band was that they wrote their lyrics in German, English and French. Such a Surge has been inactive since 2006 and dissolved into the band formation.
Band history
Such a Surge was formed in 1992 and is considered a veteran of the German crossover movement. In the initial phase Such a Surge paired hard hip-hop with metal riffs and often conveyed alternative left-wing positions on a textual level.
Such a Surge presented itself to a wider audience for the first time via the hip-hop sampler That's Real Underground , which also featured No Remorze , State of Departmentz and Die Coolen Säue . The EP Against the Stream, recorded shortly afterwards, sold around 10,000 times without the support of a professional label and without advertising. This was the basis that the band was offered a recording contract with Epic Records and accepted it after long negotiations. The production budget allowed Such a Surge to record their first full album in the US with Alex Perialas (including Anthrax ). Tours followed with Biohazard , Dog Eat Dog , Gunshot and Mucky Pup, among others .
From the third album Was Special , the Braunschweiger opened up more and more to the mainstream and in 1998 even appeared in the opening act of Herbert Grönemeyer's tour . The album Der Surge Effekt , released in 2000 , became the band's greatest commercial success. The group opened up for Die Toten Hosen on their take or die tour in 2004.
The band approached their musical roots again in 2005 when they signed a record deal with the Nuclear Blast label and released the album Alpha - it would be the band's last release for the time being. At the beginning of November 2005 the band published a press release in which it was stated that after “14 years, 6 albums and approx. 600 concerts” the band had decided to play their “last tour in 2006”. After that we want to put the band on hold! ”.
On February 23, 2006 Such a Surge played their last concert in their hometown Braunschweig at Club Jolly Joker . The Emil Bulls and Mambo Kurt appeared as the opening act . The lead singers Olli and Michel haven't picked up a microphone for Such a Surge since then. The band's future is uncertain. The group comments on the termination of the band project as follows: “Perhaps the day will come when we want to say something together again as 'Such a Surge'. At the moment we feel the need to start a new phase of life and think that it is time to face the new challenges of life individually. "
