Sulejman Tihić (born November 26, 1951 in Bosanski Šamac , † September 25, 2014 in Sarajevo ) was a Bosnian politician.

Life

Tihić studied law at the University of Sarajevo . In 1990 he was one of the founding members of the Bosnian Democratic Action Party (SDA). From 1994 to 1999 he served as a diplomat in the Bosnian Foreign Ministry.

On October 13, 2001, Tihić was elected as the successor to Alija Izetbegović as chairman of the SDA. A year later, on October 5, 2002, he succeeded in entering the State Presidium. From November 2002 to November 2006 he was a member of the State Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and represented the Bosniak ethnic group. In 2004 and 2006 he held the rotating chairmanship of the state presidency for eight months each. In the elections in October 2006 he was defeated by Haris Silajdžić , who replaced Tihić as representative of the Bosniaks in the state presidency. From March 2007, Tihić was a member of the Presidium (Kolegij) of the House of Peoples in the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Tihić was married and had three children. He died in Sarajevo on September 25, 2014 after a serious illness.
