Sweet Fanny Adams is a 1974 album by the glam rock group The Sweet .

In English slang , the expression "Sweet Fanny Adams" refers to the English child murderer Frederick Baker , who killed eight-year-old Fanny Adams in 1867 , and means roughly "absolutely nothing". At the same time, the euphemism "FA" refers to "fuck all".

Although The Sweet were better known for their glam numbers in the 70s and were considered a pure single band , they surprised on some albums with strong hard rock . This is Sweet Fanny Adams an excellent example.

So z. B. the prelude "Set me Free" furious guitar riffs with harmonic vocals, which together ends in a kind of speed metal finale. Numerous bands, such as B. Saxon played this song live as well as on albums. “No you Don't” is similar to Queen's musical beginnings . The song was later covered by Pat Benatar . “Into the Night” contains surprisingly funky drum beats that were later sampled by the Beastie Boys . The “rocking masterpiece” on this album, however, is the title track “Sweet FA” , which, paired with brutal lyrics, develops an almost punk character.

The cover version " Peppermint Twist " (originally 1962 by Joey Dee & the Starliters ) is an outlier, but the album can still be classified as a hard rock album that offers a good look at The Sweet group behind their usual hit singles.

The album reached number 27 on the British LP charts and was the most successful Sweet LP in Germany at number 2 .

In the USA Sweet Fanny Adams was not published, only the songs 1, 3, 6, 8, and 9 (see track list) could be found on the American edition of the follow-up album "Desolation Boulevard" .

In 1999, Sony BMG released a CD version containing the additional tracks “Burn on the Flame” and “Own Up, Take a Look at Yourself” .

A CD version from 2005 (published on RCA International) contains the regular nine tracks as well as a live version of “Hell Raiser” and the tracks “Burning” , “Ballroom Blitz” and “Rock & Roll Disgrace” .

Almost 40 years after the album was first released, Sweet released the live album "Sweet Fanny Adams Revisited", recorded with the cast of Andy Scott (v / g), Pete Lincoln (v / b), Tony O'Hara (v / g / keyb) and Bruce Bisland (v / dr). In a different order, all the tracks from the studio album are included except No. 4 and 5, the songs "The Sixteens", "Fox on the Run" and "Ballroom Blitz" are added. The concert recording was made in Osnabrück in 2012 as "A Scott Free Production", and it was distributed by the company H`ART.
