Sydney Film Festival

The Sydney Film Festival was founded in 1954 and is accredited as an international film festival by the FIAPF film producers association . The festival takes place every year in June for two weeks in Sydney .

The first festival opened on June 11, 1954, lasted four days and attracted 1,200 spectators. Until 1968 the University of Sydney was the venue, then the festival took place in the Wintergarden of Rose Bay ( New South Wales ) before moving to the State Theater in Sydney city center in 1974 .

An international competition has been held as part of the Sydney Film Festival since 2008. Other film prizes will also be awarded: an audience award and the Dendy Awards for Australian short films, each with prize money of AUD 3,000.
