TV 2 is Norway 's largest commercial television channel. In 1990 the Norwegian Parliament decided to allow an advertising-financed television channel. The broadcaster TV 2 A / S (Aktiengesellschaft) received a broadcast license in 1991 and started operations in 1992. The channel is headquartered in Bergen , and Alf Hildrum is the CEO and editor-in-chief . The station is a member of the European Broadcasting Union . In addition to the company management, the news, sports and international editorial offices are located at the company's headquarters. TV 2 has editorial offices in Oslo , Tromsø , Bodø , Trondheim , Ålesund , Stavanger , Kristiansand and Hamar . With Radio Norge and after acquiring Nettavisen, the broadcaster is one of the dominant media players in Norway.

Technical reach

The station had a coverage rate of 98.2 percent in 2007 and can therefore be received by around 4.6 million people. In a nationwide comparison, TV 2 has a market share of around 20 percent. The license terms require TV 2 to broadcast a full program that offers at least 50 percent of the broadcasts in the Norwegian language, contributes to the “Norwegian language, identity and culture” and should be independent of political or economic interest groups. These principles expressly refer to the principles that also apply to public broadcasting; however, the financing model is purely private and any public subsidies are excluded.

history

The license was put out to tender in 1991 and went to the TV 2 Gruppen A / S (Aktiengesellschaft) group with its TV 2 A / S channel , which includes the insurance company Vital and the media groups Schibsted and Egmont .

TV 2 initially received the license for ten years. The broadcasts started on September 5, 1992. In 2001 the license was extended to 2010. TV 2 paid a one-time fee of 150 million crowns and at least 25 million crowns in license fees annually.
