The gymnastics club Korschenbroich 1900 eV , TV Korschenbroich for short , is a sports club from the Lower Rhine town of Korschenbroich . The club is known nationwide today primarily for its handball department .

history

According to the festival book for the 50th anniversary, the foundation of the association goes back to the day it was founded on August 15, 1899. On this day, the statutes are said to have been laid down and confirmed by 85 founding members. On January 1, 1900, the first foundation festival was celebrated and it was accepted into the German gymnastics association . The name of the association was fixed with "TVK 1900".

Founding years

The protocols from the early days of the association carry out:

“The gymnastics business, which was initially set to pure apparatus gymnastics , also turned to athletic exercises and playing on the lawn. The introduction of an orderly game operation, fist and punch ball , began in 1910. For this purpose, a two-acre meadow was leased. "

The world wars

The First World War presented those responsible for the association with a fresh start, which the association succeeded in doing. The gymnasts again took part in district and regional gymnastics festivals and in the 1933 German Gymnastics Festival in Stuttgart with success.

When the Nazis came to power in 1933, the systematic repression of the Jewish population began in Korschenbroich. The fate of the Korschenbroich boy and TVK gymnast Kurt Winter, who came from a perfectly normal Jewish bourgeois family and was murdered by the SS in the Riga ghetto in 1942 , was written down in a shocking report by his wife Hilde Zander, who survived the Holocaust .

post war period

The period of reconstruction after 1945 was initially characterized by gymnastics in the club. In the mid-1950s, however, activities shifted to athletics. Athletes such as Günter Jennessen, Leo Lowitsch, Ludwig Hügen and Hans-Wolfgang Müllers achieved placements at the district and state level as well as in the German best list. Marie-Luise Moers geb. Knepperges is the club's figurehead.

Contemporary history

With the 1960s, handball became more and more important. The sport in the TVK goes back to 1931. At first field handball was played. With the construction of sports halls in the region, indoor handball prevailed from the mid-1960s .

From 1976 to 1989 athletics was revitalized and some successes in the youth department, e.g. B. at the national school competition " Youth trains for the Olympics " could be obtained. At the endeavors of the former city director and sponsor of the sport, Willi Esser, the athletes founded the independent association KLC Korschenbroich .

After the indoor sports center was built in 1973, two new departments were set up: the swimming and volleyball departments . In 1990, the mass sports department was founded - initially with a children's gymnastics group and a gymnastics and play group for adults. After a short time, the offer was expanded to include dancing , children's gymnastics, fitness , badminton , hobby football and Nordic walking .

According to the number of members, the TVK is the second largest sports club in the city of Korschenbroich today.
