Takeo Ischi ( Japanese石井健 雄, Ishii Takeo , born March 3, 1947 in Tokyo , Japan ) is a Japanese singer and yodeler who lives in Germany .

Life

Takeo Ischi grew up in Tokyo and studied mechanical engineering after school , as he was to take over his father's business one day. In his spare time he was enthusiastic about the zither and dulcimer , so he taught himself to play these instruments in Tokyo. With records by the yodeler Franzl Lang, he learned to yodel as an autodidact , so that he soon got an appearance on Japanese television. Then he went to Europe and sang in Switzerland in a tourist bar near Zurich , where he was immediately hired. Then he sang himself to his idol Franzl Lang, who took him under his wing and took him to the show “Früh is practicing” with Maria Hellwig . After that he became known in German-speaking countries as the "yodelling Japanese". He got numerous appearances on radio and television and was out and about with colleagues from folk music. He became a permanent guest in Maria Hellwig's “Kuhstall” in Reit im Winkl . Takeo was the first folk music artist to have a video made of his music. While yodelling, he serves a supermarket checkout, waves pans and toilet brushes at a weekly market and throws dish brushes into the crowd.

After it had become a little quieter around Ischi at times, he was also able to gain popularity among the younger audience through an appearance on Stefan Raab's show TV . The publication of his music videos on YouTube, some of which are in the double-digit million range, has also given him new and, above all, international fame. From July 2017 to February 2018 he performed in the Sayonara Tokyo program in the Wintergarten Berlin . In addition to yodelling, he is also active as a singer in Japan, mostly in English and Japanese. He sings mostly humorous topics.

Takeo Ischi met his future wife in 1981 and married her in 1985. He currently lives with his wife and four sons in Reit im Winkl .
