Tarja Cronberg (born Mattila, born June 29, 1943 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish politician from the Greens . She has been a member of the European Parliament since 2011 .

Life

Cronberg studied economics and engineering , including at Lund University in Sweden and at Copenhagen Business School in Denmark . She speaks seven languages ​​fluently.

From 2003 to 2007 Cronberg was a member of the Green Bund party in the Finnish parliament , elected in North Karelia . She was party leader from 2005 to 2009. From 2007 to 2009, Cronberg was Minister of Labor in Matti Vanhanen's cabinet .

In 2009 she had to undergo treatment for breast cancer and handed over the chairmanship and labor ministry to Anni Sinnemäki . In June 2011 she succeeded Heidi Hautala in the European Parliament when she was appointed Development Minister in the Katainen government.

In the EU Parliament, Cronberg chairs the delegation for relations with Iran and is a member of the Conference of Delegation Chairs , the Subcommittee on Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Security and Defense .

She is a member of the European Leadership Network .
