This time Marek is dealing with the murder of a fellow patient and the breakout of three felons from a correctional facility.

action

Chief Inspector Marek is in a Viennese hospital because of gastric surgery. When Marek is picked up for the operation, his roommate Zoller is currently receiving a visit from his family doctor, an elegantly dressed lady is standing in front of the room who is also urging a visit to Zoller. When Marek wakes up from the operating room, another patient is lying next to him, the nurse claims that Zoller had been transferred at short notice, Marek later learns that Zoller has passed away. The next day, Marek, who was recovering from the operation, found out from the radio that three dangerous violent criminals had broken out of a correctional facility. When Marek goes back to Vienna on a Danube ship, the three gangsters get on board, one of the three recognizes Marek and tells his two accomplices about his observation. He is ready to kill Marek if he recognizes him, but Marek has memory gaps after his operation that save his life. Back at his office, Wirz Marek speaks to his late roommate Zoller, Marek had already learned through the media that he was murdered. At the behest of the security bureau, Marek is supposed to deal with the murder in the hospital.

Marek speaks to Sister Gertraud and asks her about the elegant lady, but she cannot help him either. Gertraud can tell Marek, however, that the alleged heart attack seemed strange to the staff, which is why the autopsy revealed that Zoller was poisoned. His family doctor who visited Zoller was a Dr. Cylinder. Marek goes to see him, where he learns that he died in an accident the night after the murder in the hospital. Marek finds out that the doctor was killed by a stranger who escaped in an accident. While Marek is looking for them, the three gangsters look for Ms. Molitor and want to speak to her husband, who has already been reported missing. Her husband had kept the money that the three gangsters had stolen from a bank robbery that Molitor had orchestrated for them and has now disappeared. Ms. Molitor is clueless. The gangsters suspect that Ms. Molitor killed her husband and has the money herself and nestle with her. Meanwhile, Marek seeks out Ms. Zyllius, who says that it was very unusual for her husband to visit a patient in the hospital, and there is no Zoller in the patient register. Marek uses a photo of Dr. Cyllius stated that he wasn't even in the hospital, the man who had visited Zoller there had pretended to be him. In the security office file, Marek is looking for the wrong Dr. Cyllius, but finds the file card of the convicted molitor there, who was treated as a Zoller in the hospital and was then poisoned.

Marek learns of Ms. Molitor's missing person report and sends Wirz to her. Meanwhile one of the three gangsters seeks Mrs. Schrötter, the elegant lady from the hospital. She was blackmailed by Molitor and so the gangster tries to extort 500,000 shillings from her, and she promises to get the money. He and his accomplice waiting in the car appear suspicious to a radio patrol, as they are not parked and the accomplice states that they have no papers with them, they are arrested by the police. Wirz informs Ms. Molitor that her husband died in the hospital under an assumed name. Wirz accuses Ms. Molitor of cheating on her husband for a year, but she denies killing her husband. Wirz found out that Molitor had orchestrated the bank robbery and wanted to get away with the money, but then his illness intervened. He therefore went to the hospital under a false name, hoping to escape his enemies. Ms. Molitor would like to start a new life with her new boyfriend, Wirz assures her that the police will not tell him anything about her past life as a prostitute and gangster bride. When Wirz left, the gangster who stayed with her, who had been hiding from Wirz, blackmailed her for 500,000 schillings, which she did not have. When he sexually harasses her, she shoots him with a gun from her husband. Marek and Wirz look to Ms. Schrötter because the arrested gangster had come out of their house, but she reacts dismissively. The two officers still gain access to the apartment, Marek remembers Frau Schrötter as a visitor to Molitor in the hospital. Mr Schrötter admits to Marek that he accidentally killed a person while hunting in Czechoslovakia. He mistook the political watchdog who was assigned to them for Wild and shot him. They buried the body in the forest, but Molitor, who was also on the hunt, had watched everything and blackmailed her.

Marek is convinced that not Mr., but Mrs. Schrötter shot, but he cannot prove it. Berntner is able to track down an older man through a gas station attendant who had a 1,000 Schilling note from the bank robbery in his till. It is the grandfather of one of the gangsters, Marek goes to see him. He turns out to be the man who turns out to be Dr. Cyllius admitted that he initially denied having poisoned Molitor. He was also an accountant in the robbed bank and helped orchestrate the coup. Molitor had wanted to cheat him and his grandson out of the money, so Molitor had to die. According to Marek's allegations, he physically attacks him, but Marek has brought reinforcements and can arrest the man.
