As Teganon (old Greek τήγανον even peganon or Tegenon ) was referred to a form of the cookware in ancient Greece.

Tegana were used to cook and fry squid , and possibly also used for salting . The form is only known from Aristophanes' literary tradition . The German term Tiegel as well as the Arabic term Tajine is borrowed from the Greek word via the Roman tegula . Even the modern Greek word Saganaki comes to the Turkish term sahan of Teganon.
