Terig Tucci

Terig Tucci (born June 23, 1897 in Buenos Aires , † February 28, 1973 in Forest Hills , New York ) was an Argentine composer, violinist, pianist and mandolinist.

Life

Tucci studied violin with Luis Vívoli and music theory and harmony with Alfonso de María . His first composition, the Zarzuela Cariños de Madre , premiered in 1917 at the Teatro Avenida in Buenos Aires. In 1919 the symphonic poem Almafuerte was premiered in Ramos Mejía . From 1919 to 1923 he worked as a violinist in various theaters and cinemas in Buenos Aires.

In 1923 Tucci moved to the USA, where he worked as a composer and arranger of Latin American music. From 1930 to 1941 he worked for NBC . He worked as an arranger for musicians such as Laura Suárez , Cándido Boutilho , Julio Martínez Oyanguren , Graciela Párraga , Elsie Houston , Alfonso Ortiz Tirado , Juan Arvizu , Pedro Vargas , Olga Coelho , Marta Pérez , Los Panchos , John Serry senior and Eva Garza .

From 1932 to 1964, Tucci was responsible for the recordings of Latin American music at RCA Victor . Between 1940 and 1949 Tucci worked as arranger for musicians such as CBS 's Pan American Orchestra with Alfredo Antonini (conductor) and John Serry senior (accordionist) for Voice of America . During his tenure at CBS in the 1940s, he also worked with musicians such as Juan Arvizu (Mexican tenor), Nestor Mesta Chairs (Mexican tenor) and Elsa Miranda (Puerto Rican singer). He also worked for International General Electric from 1941 to 1947 and headed the Latin America division of Voice of America from 1951 to 1959. He also wrote film scores and was musical director of the Latin America exhibition at Macy’s in 1942 . Between 1953 and 1957 he composed music for radio programs and documentaries for the United Nations .

In 1934 and 1935 he worked for Paramount Pictures as musical director of several films with the tango singer Carlos Gardel , for whom he composed titles such as Los Ojos de mi Moza and Sol Tropical and the tangos Noche Estrellada and Recordando . Musicians such as the violinists Remo Bolognini , Eduardo Zito , Rafael Galindo and Juan Manzo , the pianist Abraham Thevenet , the bassist Domingo Guido , the cellist Vicente Navatta and the accordionist Joe played in the orchestra with which he accompanied Gardel on recordings for RCA Victor Biviano .

Tucci was always a sought-after partner for Latin American musicians who came to New York. He worked with Azucena Maizani , Agustín Irusta , Armando Barbé and Daniel López Barreto . In 1969 he published the book Gardel en Nueva York .
