action

Frank Galvin was a successful lawyer , but he hasn't received a case for some time and has gradually become a drinker . His old friend Mickey Morrissey finally gets him a mandate for a damages lawsuit. The case revolves around a young woman who fell into a coma while giving birth in a renowned Catholic hospital. The medical malpractice is apparently to be covered up with the support of the Catholic Church. Galvin is confronted with Ed Concannon, the hospital attorney, who is strategizing with his large legal staff, snooping into Galvin's personal life and drinking problem, buying important witnesses, and even getting a beautiful woman - Laura Fischer - hooked on Galvin to get into his life and trust creeps.

Despite the offer of an out-of-court settlement and the bias of the treating judge against him, Galvin wants a judicial conviction of the two doctors responsible. While Galvin tries to convince the jury of the doctors' guilt, the unscrupulous defense nullifies his charges - also through direct influence - every time.

But despite all the setbacks, Galvin does not give up and ultimately wins the trial, with the jury holding out even more than the required money. Galvin leaves the courtroom victorious. Laura, obviously regretting her betrayal, tries to speak to him. Galvin, unable to forgive her falsehood, refuses to speak to her.
