Therapy scheme ( plural : therapy schemes) stands in the medical field for a standardized procedure that is used in the treatment of a specific disease. Therapy schemes are z. B. used in the treatment of asthma , COPD , diabetes , cancer and / or multiple sclerosis . They can include drug and non-drug forms of therapy. If it is a drug therapy scheme, it includes the controlled administration of drugs with a defined dose over a certain period of time.

Therapy schemes are also used in other indications. According to the guidelines, e.g. B. every person with asthma can be treated according to a five- step plan . The main component of the therapy scheme are the "classic" asthma medication in different dosages. From level five, asthma antibodies ( biologicals ) are recommended.

In the treatment of multiple sclerosis, for example, one speaks of basic therapy and escalation therapy . The term pulse therapy means - in contrast to previous therapy for MS - a short delivery of a drug is set by which a therapeutic "Pulse". If necessary, this is "refreshed" as with a vaccination. As a result, the active ingredient itself is only in the body for a short time, but its effect is lasting, sometimes for years. Impulse therapy is therefore the alternative to long-term therapy, in which medication (up to daily) must be taken or injected in order to be effective. The “impulse therapy” therapy scheme is therefore easy to adhere to, even for non-adherent patients.

Pay-for-performance

Pay-for-performance is an economic therapy scheme that represents a new type of pricing model in view of the continuously increasing drug spending. As part of a pay-for-performance contract between the health insurance company and the manufacturer, the costs of drug therapy are linked to the success of the treatment. This model is available e.g. B. in a cancer treatment and also in MS treatment .
