Thomas Valter Åhlén (born March 8, 1959 in Gävle ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player .

Career

Thomas Åhlén began his career as an ice hockey player at Hofors IK , for whose professional team he was active from 1973 to 1977 - first in Division 2, which was still second at the time, and from the 1975/76 season in the new second Swedish division, Division 1 . From 1977 to 1979 the defender ran for Leksands IF in the Elitserien . He spent the following six years with his league rivals Skellefteå AIK . For the 1985/86 season , the left shooter moved within the Elitserien to AIK Solna , with whom he was immediately relegated to the second-rate Division 1. In the 1986/87 season , however, he was able to return directly to the Elitserien with AIK. Following the 1989/90 season , he ended his career with AIK at the age of 31.

International

For Sweden , Åhlén took part in the junior division exclusively in the U18 European Junior Championship in 1977 , where he won the gold medal with his team. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , where he won the bronze medal with Sweden, and at the Canada Cup in 1984 .
