Tina Bru (born April 18, 1986 in Moss ) is a Norwegian politician of the conservative Høyre party . She has been the oil and energy minister in her country since January 2020 .

Political career

From 2008 to 2009, Bru headed the youth organization Unge Høyre in the province of Rogaland , and until 2010 she was also a member of the state board. In 2011, Bru was elected to the Fylkesting of Rogaland and the City Council of Stavanger . In 2013, Bru moved into the Norwegian parliament, the Storting , for Rogaland for the first time . In the 2017 election she managed to move back in. From January 2017 she was the second deputy head of the Committee for Energy and Environment.

On January 24, 2020, she was appointed the new Minister for Oil and Energy in the Solberg government. She took over the office of Sylvi Listhaug , a politician of the Fremskrittspartiet (FrP) after the FrP left the government. On February 6, 2020, she was appointed by an internal party body as the new deputy party leader after Bent Høie announced his withdrawal. A party congress must confirm her in this position.

Positions

Nuclear power

After her appointment as Minister of Oil and Energy, she announced on February 19, 2020 that there should be no expansion of nuclear power in Norway. This was previously requested by regional associations of their party.

Oil and gas production

On February 6, 2020, Bru stated that there would be no benefit if Norway stopped oil and gas production. Otherwise production would simply be relocated to another country. Bru stated that she was taking the same position as her predecessor, FrP politician Sylvi Listhaug , because both work with the same government agreement . However, she is in favor of meeting the Norwegian climate targets. On April 3, 2020, her ministry announced that it would search for oil in 36 new locations. Bru stated that this was necessary for planning the future.
