Christine Francine Wilhelmina (Tine) Van Rompuy (born August 28, 1955 in Leuven ) is a Belgian trade unionist and politician of the PVDA .

Life

She grew up in a family of three siblings, two brothers, Herman Van Rompuy and Eric Van Rompuy , and a sister. In 1977 she received her diploma as a nurse in psychiatry .

Tine Van Rompuy is married and has three daughters.

Professional and political career

From 1977 to 1995 she worked as a psychiatric nurse in the psycho-social center of the Broeders van Liefde in Leuven and from 1995 to 2004 she was a psychiatric nurse in the University Hospital (UZ) Leuven "Pellenberg". Since 2004 she has been the head of nursing at the central patient transport service at the UZ Leuven "Gasthuisberg". As a trade unionist for the Christian Employees' Union LBC-NVK, she is a member of the staff council and the committee for occupational safety. She is also active in the Gewestelijke Belangengroep Ziekenhuizen Leuven (Regional Interest Group Hospitals Leuven) and the National Interest Group Hospitals. After all, she is also a member of the Leuven local board of her trade union LBC-NVK.

In the European elections in 2009 she stood for the communist workers' party PTB + and took third place after the party chairman Peter Mertens and the chairman of the ACOD (public service) union Nicole Naert . At the same time she ran for the Flemish regional elections. In the parliamentary elections in 2010, she took the top spot on the Senate list. In 2012 she ran for the municipal, district and provincial council elections in Leuven.

Positions

Van Rompuy advocates the “kiwi model” and the millionaire tax at PVDA +, a wealth tax on assets over 1 million euros. She sponsored the latter campaign. As a care worker, she sympathizes with the PVDA-affiliated organization Geneeskunde voor het Volk (Medicine for the People). She has already visited the Philippines twice at the invitation of the Philippine union The Alliance of Health Workers . She is committed to the activities of Stop the killings , a platform of over 50 organizations that condemn the political murders in that country.
